Fafda in  my  jugad style

Fafda is identity of Gujarat and Gujarati when it comes to food. Although fafda is a popular food item but usually people don’t bother making it at home. Here I have a very simple Fafda recipe which is easy to follow and make at home.

Ingredients for Fafda

1 1/2 cup gram flour ( besan )

1 pinch ajwain ( carom seeds )

1 pinch  black pepper powder

salt to taste

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 cup Fortune Rice Bran Health oil + for deep fry

1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda

Water – as required

5-6 green chilies

1 tsp lemon juice

Method – Fafda

  1. In a big bowl place Fortune Rice Bran Health oil, gram flour, salt, turmeric powder, black pepper powder, ajwain and bicarbonate of soda. Mix well.
  2. Knead the dough at least 5-6 minutes
  3.  Add little water and knead the tight dough once more.
  4. Divide dough into 5-6 small balls.
  5. Now take a transparent poly sheet and brush the oil on one side.
  6. Place a dough ball over the poly sheet and cover with another sheet
  7. Roll out the thin layer of fafda with the help of belan just like chapati.
  8. Cut it into long pieces.
  9. Heat Fortune Rice Bran Health oil in a kadai
  10. Fry the fafdas in heated oil till they turn into golden brown in color.
  11.  Now fry green chilies, mix it with salt and lemon juice.
  12. Fafdas are ready to serve.

My husband gave me the idea of using poly sheet for rolling  fafda when i was struggling with spreading the dough with palm (the traditional way of making Fafda). Now u also have the idea. 🙂 enjoy and keep eating.
